What's coming

An old ritual,
new to Saratoga.

Finns have gathered in the sauna for generations. Saratoga has drawn people to its springs for two centuries. We think they belong together.

The Finnish sauna

A traditional, communal Finnish sauna built for real heat and real löyly, the wave of steam that rises when water meets hot stones. Room to sit with friends, or sit quietly.

Heat

The cold plunge

Individual cold plunge tubs set at a range of temperatures, so a first-timer and a lifelong winter swimmer can both find their water. Heat, then cold, then rest.

Cold

The club

A run club, community evenings, and plain-spoken education on what the research does and doesn't say. A place to belong in the Spa City, not just a place to visit.

Community

What the research says

Not a trend.
A long record.

Heat and cold have been studied for decades. Here's some of what published research has found, with the sources, so you can read it yourself.

4–7×

Finnish men who took a sauna four to seven times a week had lower rates of sudden cardiac death over about 20 years than men who went once a week.

Laukkanen et al., JAMA Internal Medicine, 2015
20 yrs

In the same long-running study, frequent sauna use was also associated with lower rates of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Laukkanen et al., Age and Ageing, 2017
3,018

Adults in a Dutch trial who ended their showers with 30 to 90 seconds of cold reported 29% fewer sick days off work, though not fewer days ill.

Buijze et al., PLOS ONE, 2016

These are observational studies and a single trial. They show associations, not guarantees, and much of the sauna research followed middle-aged Finnish men. Nothing here is medical advice. Talk with your doctor before starting sauna or cold plunge if you have a heart condition, high or low blood pressure, are pregnant, or have other health concerns.

Questions

Good to
know.

Where will it be?

Downtown Saratoga Springs. We'll share the exact address with insiders first, once the build is underway.

When does it open?

We're aiming for early 2027. Construction timelines move, so insiders will hear the real date as soon as we're confident in it.

What's a Finnish sauna, and how is it different from a gym sauna?

A Finnish sauna is a dedicated, wood-lined room heated by a stove topped with stones. You ladle water on the stones to release löyly, a soft wave of heat and steam. It's hotter, larger, and far more social than the small dry box at most gyms, and it's built to be paired with cold water and rest.

I've never done a cold plunge. Is this for me?

Yes. The tubs run at different temperatures so you can start gently. If you have a heart condition, high blood pressure, are pregnant, or have any medical concerns, check with your doctor before using a sauna or cold plunge.

Who's behind it?

A Saratoga Springs family who fell hard for the real Nordic sauna experience and wanted to bring it home.
